Assistant Controller
The Assistant Controller is responsible for executing daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks and activities. The Assistant Controller will work with the current fractional Controller, CFO, and COO, and is expected to maintain and develop accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in reporting to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee and/or handle all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, donor revenue recognition, and reconciliations including restricted funds.
- Internal Controls: Support the implementation and maintenance of internal control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of the company's budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis, providing insights to support financial decision-making.
- Audit Support: Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and support during audits.
- Team Supervision: Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support in their daily activities.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements, efficiency improvements, and automation of financial and accounting tasks.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies.
- Cash management and ensuring that invoices are paid timely.
- Prepare and analyze cash flow projections.
- Payroll processing.
- Preparing Metrics reporting and deck presentations for executive management and the Board.
- Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Promote effective cross-functional collaboration (especially with donor development and human resources) by maintaining open lines of communication and proactively sharing new ideas and information.
- Maintain a positive mindset and foster a strong team mentality.
Qualifications (required)
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certification: CPA or CMA preferred.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including prior experience in a supervisory role. CPA firm experience is desirable. Experience with financial reporting, analysis, and audit preparation is desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with financial reporting systems.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail and accuracy in financial data analysis and reporting.
- Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills to eventually lead and support a team effectively.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and present financial information effectively.
