Program Instructor - JA BizTown

Junior Achievement of Central Ohio is seeking part-time program instructors to guide 5th grade students through JA BizTown, an exciting, mini-city simulation where students get to be adults for the day. JA BizTown Instructors work with volunteers, educators, and students, ensuring the simulation goes smoothly and students walk away from the day feeling accomplished.

Impact

As a JA BizTown Instructor, you should enjoy working with children. The interactions that students have with adults at JA BizTown are part of an exciting day that we know students remember for years to come. Instructors need to practice patience, compassion, and teamwork, and are often rewarded with hearing students say, "This was the best day ever!"

This position pays $16 per hour with a planned increase.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assisting with the daily operations of the JA BizTown simulation.

Simulation Prep and Reset – Ensure that the simulation space and all materials for students and volunteers are prepped and ready prior to their arrival.

Simulation Support – Provide daily support to the JA BizTown Program Manager and Director including:
-- Materials – printing, distributing and collecting.
-- Volunteer Support – ensure volunteers are staying on schedule and answer any questions they have.
-- Student Support – help manage student behavior and make sure that they are completing all necessary tasks.
-- Tech support – trouble shoot common issues with technology used in the simulations.

Student Safety & Security - Assist with the orderly unloading and loading of buses upon arrival and departure, escort student into secure space, verify student numbers on arrival and departure.

Customer Service – Provide the highest level of customer service to all visitors (volunteers, teachers, middle school students, etc.).

TEAMWORK! – Look for opportunities to support teammates and ask for support when needed to ensure that a high level of quality is maintained across all areas through communication and collaboration.

JA BizTown is open throughout the school year (late September through June).Typically, June consists of two weeks of JA BizTown Summer Camp; instructors are required to work at least one week. Instructors work a 5.5-hour shift, 2-3 times per week, generally between 8:00am and 3:30pm.

Qualifications (required)

Proven work experience in a professional environment working with students ages 10-15; ability to create strategies to balance multiple task in fast-paced setting, works well in a team environment; strong computer skills; proficiency in customer service including problem-solving, decision-making, troubleshooting and communication skills.
